EHS Manager

Department: Environment,Health ,Safety, And Sustainability
Location: St-Damien, QC

Job Purpose

The health and safety manager is an integral part of the establishment and application of IPL St-Damien's prevention program. He manages the various OHS projects with the different departments. He implements various occupational health and safety procedures and communicates them to all personnel involved. He works closely with the St-Damien plant management committee, as well as with managers in all departments. He will be a resource person in communications with the various government agencies to maintain the various compliance measures and permits. He/she develops and reviews training content and may be called upon to train employees on various OHS-related subjects. He must be able to respond to any special situations that may arise.

Analyze problems, implement corrective measures and promote continuous improvement

  • Analyze accident reports, conduct investigations with supervisors and implement and follow up on actions to be taken
  • Work with the OHS committee to set up OHS awareness campaigns
  • Propose, implement and monitor corrective measures applicable to the organization; communicate with supervisors regarding temporary assignments and ensure compliance
  • Responsible for compiling data and information used in monthly statistical reports, and for updating and monitoring performance indicators (KPIs)
  • Carry out any other related tasks required by OHS and participate in teamwork with other management departments at the St-Damien plant

Actively collaborate in the management of activities related to the development of OHS strategies, policies, processes and regulations

  • Establish strategies to assess the impact of identified operational or business issues
  • Develop action plans to promote improvements arising from the study of risks and target indicators
  • Prepare, plan, lead and monitor the joint health and safety committee for the St-Damien site
  • Participate in CNESST inspection visits to facilities

Safety and Sustainability Expectations

  • Leadership in influencing health and safety issues
  • Knowledge of OHS legislation, standards and procedures
  • Familiar with ISO, HACCP/SQF and IMS

Minimum qualifications, Formal Education, Certifications or Equivalents

  • Bachelor's degree in human resources management with OHS option and/or DEC in environment, health and safety at work, recognized equivalent training or relevant experience in prevention and OHS management

Working Experience – Nature & Length

  • 10 years' experience in occupational health and safety in a manufacturing environment
  • Experience in a unionized environment is an asset
  • Recognized experience in prevention
  • Concrete experience in prevention in the field
